Kathmandu. The movie ‘Lajjavati’, which is going to be released on August 12, is not just a film for actor Shree Krishna Niraula, but a significant achievement after 26 years of struggle.
Niraula, who has been active in the Nepali film industry for a long time but did not get the opportunity to appear in the lead role, will be seen in the lead role for the first time through ‘Lajjavati’. Talking to Nepal News Bank about the movie, Niraula described ‘Lajjavati’ as a family film based on a love story.
According to him, the film presents the true meaning of love and the story of dedication, trust and priority in a relationship.
‘In today’s time, people fall in love quickly and after a while are attracted to another person. But real love is a deep connection with a person,” he said, “Real love is wanting and loving the happiness of the one who is loved, even if the situation makes him far away.” ‘Lajjavati’ shows how to love and how to extinguish it after doing it.
Niraula, who does not want to reveal much about his role in the movie, said that he has played the role of a very simple, straightforward and emotional character.
According to him, even if the character does not find the person he loves, he does not stop loving him.
‘This character only loves one girl. That love is so deep that whether he is mine or not, whether he wants to leave me, I will continue to love him,” he said.
He also says that the character is somewhat similar to his true nature. “Even in real life, when I fall in love with someone, I feel very loyal. I’m a loving person from the inside,” he said.
But in real life, he believes that life should not be stopped if you fail in love.
“If someone leaves, they should be happy. But you should not stop your own life. You have to have a career, you have to have a family, you have to get married,” he said.
‘Love’ and ‘attraction’ are different
Niraula said that love and attraction should not be understood in the same way. According to him, liking someone in the first meeting can be attraction rather than love.
‘Today I saw someone, felt nice and said ‘I love you’ does not mean love. It can be an attraction,” he said. Only by spending a long time together, understanding each other, do you know whether there is real love or not. According to him, prioritization, trust, care and respect for each other’s feelings are important in love. “No matter how busy a person is, he makes time for the people he loves. There is a priority in love. Love is about care, trust, and making your partner feel special,” he said.
Niraula said that the audience will see himself as a very emotional character in the film
in ‘Lajjavati’. According to him, his character goes through an emotional state from the beginning to the end of the film.
‘I’ve been in the role of Runche throughout the film. Whether it’s a relationship with my family or a girlfriend, my life is full of emotions,” he said.
He said that he is emotional in real life as well, and even small things bring tears to his eyes.
‘I’m a little too emotional. Even if a person I love says a small thing, tears fall from my eyes. People are boys, but the heart is like a girl,” he said with a laugh.
‘Film is not a place to get education’
Niraula’s perspective on the question of what education the film gives to the audience, is somewhat different. According to him, the main purpose of the film is to entertain the audience and take them out of the stress of daily life for some time.
‘I don’t think people should get an education by watching the film. There are schools and colleges to get education. A film is also a place to get out of your stress and hectic schedule for three hours and refresh,” he said.
He believes that the audience will not get bored while watching ‘Lajjavati’ and will be emotionally attached to the story. He claims that the film will touch the audience as love, breakups and family relationships are connected to everyone’s life in some way or the other.
‘Everyone has some form of love in their life, there is a breakup. So the story of our film resonates with the lives of a lot of viewers,” he said.
‘A film that is watched not only by lovers but also by the family’
‘Lajjavati’ should not be considered as a film that is watched only by lovers even though it is based on a love story. According to him, the film also depicts family relations and father-son love.
‘It’s a complete family film. The love of parents and the relationship between father and son is also in the film. So it’s a film that you can watch with the family,” he said.
After 26 years of struggle, the main role
The main reason why ‘Lajjavati’ is special for Niraula is his 26-year-long film journey.
‘People come to films after struggling for one-two-three years. I struggled for 26 years. I have never been able to play a lead role in a film till date,” he said emotionally.
During this period, he has acted in hundreds of music videos.
He worked in various short films, went to many places for opportunities. Earlier, he was seen in a supporting role in a few films, but he got the opportunity for the first time in the lead role through ‘Lajjavati’.
‘I did a hundred and fifty music videos. My target was the film. I have been waiting for this day for 26 years,” he said. After 26 years, I reached that goal. Now it remains to be seen how the audience will accept me. For him, this is the reason why ‘Lajjavati’ has become a special film so far.
‘I want to get married’
Talking about his personal life, Niraula said that he is very much interested in getting married. According to him, after a seven-year-long relationship ended a few years ago, he has not had another relationship in his life till now.
‘I really want to get married. I had a big plan to get married four or five years ago,” he said.
Even though he doesn’t know where his future spouse is now, he believes that he will meet someday.
‘There must be a girl who marries me somewhere. He may be in a relationship with someone else, may be living with a breakup, or he may be busy with his life. But someday you’re going to bump into me. I’m looking forward to that moment,” he said with a laugh.
He also said that after marriage, he wanted to give his wife the same love, care and protection that he got in his mother’s house.
‘I can give him such love that he considers himself lucky after marriage.’ I want to feel the same love, care and protection I got in my husband’s house,” she said.
Niraula also openly expressed his views on the current situation of the Nepali film industry, which is difficult to secure financially only from the film
. According to him, it is difficult to be financially stable only from the film industry, even though the future can be made through artistry.
‘If a hundred films are made in Nepal, not all films do good business. A lot of films are on the verge of sinking. So, if you want to find a future in art, you have to have another business along with film,” he said.
Giving the example of Nepali artists investing in business, he said that there is a huge gap between the economic structure of the Nepali film industry and Bollywood-Hollywood.
‘Our market is small, there are budget problems and the number of viewers is limited. A film made with millions of investment has to do a lot of business to raise the investment, “he said.
Niraula said that he got a positive response after the trailer of ‘Lajjavati’ was released.
He said that the directors and DoPs of various films have personally called him and praised him for his performance.
‘There were a lot of calls after the trailer. Even the best filmmakers and DOPs complimented that the work looked good. It made me feel like I was doing better,” he said.
But even though the trailer is good, he admits that the challenge is to keep the film at the same standard.
‘Just because the trailer is good does not mean that the film will also be good. I want the audience to see what is seen in the trailer throughout the film,” he said.
‘Come to the theater on August 29’
On the eve of the film’s release, Niraula has also made an emotional appeal to the audience.
‘I’m new. I am coming to the lead role for the first time in a film. Some things can go wrong while speaking, I can slip. Please forgive me if I make a mistake,” he said.
He urged the audience to take the love he received on social media to the hall.
‘If the audience watches the film, then we will be actors. If the audience does not love us, we will not be able to become artists,” he said. He believes that if the audience supports him, he will get an opportunity to work in another film. “It’s a matter of one day, take time to come to the hall with the family and watch the film. Give your feedback after watching the film. Let’s meet in the hall on August 29,” he said.
Niraula, who portrayed ‘Lajjavati’ as a ‘typical but sweet love story’, expressed the belief that the love of the audience would make his 26-year-long journey meaningful.
‘The day I’ve been waiting for 26 years has arrived. Now the most important thing is how the audience perceives my work. ’
