. Nepali Communist Party (NCP) lawmaker Ramesh Kumar Malla has demanded the government to intensify rescue and search for Baldev Basnet, a youth of Salyan who has gone missing in a torrential stream in Syangja.
Speaking at the meeting of the House of Representatives, lawmaker said that Basnet, a resident of Siddhakumakh Rural Municipality-2 of Salyan, had reached Galyang Municipality of Syangja for employment and was working as a worker in the construction of the Aandhikhola bridge linking Galyang Municipality-7 and 11.”Baldev Basnet, who had gone to Galyang Municipality of Syangja from Siddhakumakh Rural Municipality-2 of Salyan district for work, left behind his three-year-old daughter and pregnant wife at home, has gone missing since yesterday afternoon,” he said.

Basnet’s family has complained that the government is not serious about the government and the contractor is not serious about the incident.
He also drew the attention of the government towards the prolonged drought in Bangar of west Salyan and Simta area of eastern Surkhet. Stating that the farmers have not yet been able to plant paddy and the beds are drying up, he demanded the government to immediately declare the drought zone and provide relief, seeds and fertilizer to the farmers.
“Immediately declare drought-hit zone, provide relief to farmers, manage seeds and fertilizer, make emergency management of drinking water and livestock in coordination with all three tiers of government,” he said.
Stating that there was a possibility of extension of lift irrigation from the Bheri River that flows near the Bheri river, he demanded the government to make arrangements for irrigation in the productive but dry-prone land on the Bheri bank immediately. He said that climate-resilient agriculture, small and big water harvesting projects, pond and reserve structures, irrigation, afforestation and forest conservation should be taken up as a campaign in the long term.
