Lawmaker Pariyar urges govt not to increase electricity tariff
Kathmandu Nepali Congress (NC) National Assembly member Padam Bahadur Pariyar has drawn the attention of the government on the issue of electricity tariff and energy policy. Speaking at a meeting of the National Assembly on Wednesday, lawmaker Pariyar said although the previous government had encouraged the use of electric stove and facilitated the people, the incumbent government has increased the tax on electricity, putting additional burden on the citizens.
He said, “The previous government had facilitated the citizens in the context of electric stove in relation to the energy policy and tax agreement.
But the present government has worked to scratch the backs of the citizens by increasing the tax on electricity. I would like to request the government to make me aware of this. “
Pariyar said that during the recent Dewangunj incident, the government showed the mentality that the federal government is the most powerful government and only the politicians living in Kathmandu are the decisive ones.
He said that the government was trying to resolve the problem by sending its employees and representatives without coordinating with the chiefs and deputy chiefs of the local levels, local political parties, leaders and the provincial government to resolve the incidents that have taken place in the Tarai region.
He said that he was personally worried that the government’s ‘immature’ working style could further complicate the situation.
He said that the incident has been resolved with the efforts of all sides including political parties, government, religious leaders and social leaders.
He stressed the need of effective coordination among the federal, state and local levels regarding such sensitive issues in the days ahead.
