. A new mother and infant from Mugu have been airlifted under the air rescue programme launched under the National Women Empowerment Project under the Ministry of Women, Children, Gender and Sexual Minority and Social Security.
Deepa Bhandari, 38, of Khatyad Rural Municipality-11 in Mugu district was suffering from serious health problems after giving birth at a local health facility.
The newborn and mother were rescued by Nepal Army airlift and brought to well-equipped State Hospital, Surkhet for further treatment after their health condition deteriorated.
The Ministry has been conducting the air rescue programme with the objective of providing specialist health services to pregnant and lactating women in remote and geographically remote areas in time.
The programme is becoming effective in ensuring life saving and safe treatment for mothers and newborns in the event of emergency and complicated delivery.
