Govt focused on search, rescue and rehabilitation in flood-hit areas: PM Shah Prime Minister Walen Shah has said that the government is moving ahead with search, rescue and relief distribution following the devastating floods in the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa district.
Addressing the social media on Tuesday evening, Prime Minister Shah said that the rehabilitation works have been forwarded giving priority to the life-saving and health treatment and psycho-counseling of the flood-affected people. He said that human resources will be mobilized for search, rescue and relief in the affected areas as per the need.
He said, “We inform that the government is working towards rehabilitation by providing necessary treatment and psycho-counseling to save the health of the people of the affected areas by saving their lives.” However, we will continue to deploy manpower in search, rescue and relief in the affected areas as per the need.” According to him, 2,653 people are receiving shelter and relief in 19 temporary shelters in Nuwakot. The affected people of Rasuwa have also been provided shelter and relief in Nuwakot.

Nepal has released Rs 1 billion for the flood-affected areas on Tuesday. The Prime Minister said that the government has been directed to provide the amount to the affected local levels through the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority as per the need.
According to him, Rs 6.75 crore has been released for 15 local levels of the three districts on Tuesday. Earlier, the government had provided Rs 1 crore each to Rasuwa and Nuwakot and Rs 50 lakh to Dhading.
‘The Government of Nepal has released Rs 1 billion for the flood-affected areas today. We have already directed to provide this amount to the affected local levels through the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority as per the need. Out of this, Rs 67.5 million has been released for 15 local levels of 3 districts today,” he said.
According to him, 11,884 people have been rescued from the flood-affected areas so far while 3,916 people are still out of contact.
Out of the 292 injured who were rescued and admitted to various hospitals, 182 have been discharged. Currently, 2,466 people are taking shelter in Nuwakot, 260 in Dhading, 398 in Rasuwa and 329 in Kathmandu.
The floods have damaged 82 km of the Galchhi-Vetravati-Rasuwagadhi road. Of these, 40 km of the road was completely damaged and 16 km partially, according to the government. Krishnabhir and Parewabhir areas of the Prithvi Highway have also been damaged.
According to him, 48 suspension bridges have been damaged by the floods and 20 need to be repaired and 28 new ones need to be constructed.
31 motorable bridges have been washed away in the affected areas. The process of installing bailey bridges in three of them has started and feasibility studies are being carried out at 20 more places.
The construction of a bailey bridge has been started by removing the silt on the Galchi-Devighat road section. Preparations are also being made to install a bailey bridge at Tadi-Devighat and Betrawati. The government claims that the Krishnabhir section of the Muglin-Narayangadh road will be repaired and brought into operation within August.
The government has intensified health surveillance and response to prevent the spread of a possible epidemic in the flood-affected areas. The Prime Minister said that the ‘Post-Disaster Communicable Disease Surveillance and Response Plan’ has been approved for the control of infectious diseases and the health officers at the state and district levels have been trained.
Special health teams, trained manpower from field epidemiology and medical surveillance officers have been deployed in the affected areas. A special system has been put in place to monitor and respond to fever and diarrhoea. As of Tuesday afternoon, Rs 6
.36 billion has been deposited in the accounts of nine commercial banks in the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund. According to him, the fund has a deposit of Rs 5.36 billion after the release of Rs 1 billion to the flood-affected areas.
Similarly, Himalayan Bank and Laxmi Bank have deposited $61,111,148. India has so far provided 68.5 tonnes of relief and rescue materials and an 11-member rescue team has arrived in Nepal. Pakistan is receiving 86 tonnes of relief materials while Sri Lanka has pledged USD 1 million. China has already donated Rs 300 million to the Prime Minister’s Natural Disaster Relief Fund and provided 50 tonnes of relief materials. Rescue teams from China have been deployed in the affected areas.
Nepal has requested China to support 30 bailey bridges.
The United States has pledged $500
,000 and Australia $10 million. The UAE has provided 83 tons of relief supplies and has pledged up to $10 million.
