Kathmandu. The faction led by former Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has proposed to hold the party’s 15th general convention in November.

In the meeting held at Chundevi on Wednesday, the proposal was made to hold the general convention from December 7 to 23, according to NC leader NP Saud. The meeting has proposed to hold the ward convention on September 15, the municipal convention on October 20, the provincial election and the House of Representatives on October 9, the district convention on November 29 and the provincial convention on November 20. According to Saud, the central committee members have started expressing their views on the schedule and the schedule will be approved after necessary revisions.

‘The members of the central committee have started putting their views on this schedule. This meeting is not only for one day but also continuously. We know how long it will last. After all the friends put their views, it will be passed with necessary modifications,” Saud said.

According to him, it has been proposed to recognize the active membership that has been renewed by December 26 for the 15th general convention. In the areas where the new active membership has not been distributed, the new membership will be distributed on the basis of the recommendation of the ward and it will be finalized through the regional committee.

Saud admitted that the NC organization was divided at present and said that preparations were being made to give full shape to the concerned body by appointing a central representative and coordinator as the organizational structure was incomplete in some places due to the split. Saud said that he was in constant dialogue with other leaders of the party to resolve the dispute within the party. He also informed that discussions are underway with Shekhar Koirala’s side.

‘They are all on the same ideological ground. We are constantly talking, communicating and discussing with them. Acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka has also filed a case in the court. He is also with us in the case that is going on in the court, the case is sub-judice,” he said.

According to him, a petition was filed in the Supreme Court to stop the general convention schedule set by the leadership elected through the special session so that the Congress would not be divided into two structures. However, he said that after the court did not decide to stop the schedule, the other side went ahead with its process.

‘Since the Supreme Court has not taken that decision, they have said that they will continue. Now that the review case is going on, one side has continued it, now we, who are the leaders of the actual 14th general convention or the elected working committee or the elected working committee, are responsible for holding the 15th general convention,” Saud said.

He said that they have proposed a new general convention schedule to fulfill this responsibility.
