We will support the government in the disaster without ruling and opposition sides: NC

Kathmandu. Nepali Congress lawmaker Bhishma Raj Angdembe has said that all political parties should face the disaster unitedly, not ruling and opposition.

Giving a partisan opinion during the special hour of the House of Representatives on Wednesday, lawmaker Angdembe said that it was never before that Nepal had to suffer such a huge loss in a moment. He paid tribute to those who lost their lives in the unimaginable calamity and expressed condolences to the bereaved families.

He also extended gratitude to all Nepalis at home and abroad for their promptness and solidarity and support during this time of national disaster.

“We don’t know when the disaster will strike. I would like to remind you that the Nepali Congress party has repeatedly drawn the attention of this House that disaster can strike at any time, so let’s be prepared for it,” he said.

Lawmaker Angdembe said that the Nepali Congress has been saying from the very beginning that the ruling party and the opposition should face the disaster together. He made it clear that the Congress was with the government in times of disaster. He said that from the very first day of the flood crisis, he met the Prime Minister and drew his attention to the immediate works. He said that the Congress immediately decided to hold a meeting and mobilize the party line and support the government’s good efforts. He also recalled that the Nepali Congress President had clearly expressed commitment to support the government in the all-party meeting. Lawmaker Angdembe informed that the Nepali Congress has already decided to contribute one crore rupees to the Prime Minister Natural Disaster Relief Fund. He said, “The Nepali Congress has said from the beginning that we should face the disaster without ruling or opposition. We are with the government. From the very first day of the flood disaster, I met the Prime Minister and drew his attention to the immediate work. The Nepali Congress immediately held a meeting and decided to mobilize the party line and support the government’s good efforts. It is known that the Nepali Congress President had clearly expressed his commitment to support the government in the all-party meeting. The Nepali Congress has already decided to contribute Rs 10 million to the Prime Minister’s Natural Disaster Relief Fund. He said that the common duty of all is to engage in rescue, relief and rehabilitation during the time of disaster. He said that the Congress is with the government and the families who are suffering from the disaster. But being with the government does not mean blindly supporting all the work done by the government, he said.

‘Saying that we are with the government in times of crisis does not mean that everything the government has done. It does a good job, there is support. If it goes astray, there are cautions and questions. Isn’t this the special help?” he asked.

He said that the government should be serious about whether everything is going well even after a week of the catastrophic floods.

“When it is not right, if we do not remain silent, if we do not take precautions and do not ask questions, then we are deprived of our responsibility and duty. So this is not a prejudice, it is a question. We are asking effective questions to the government, not weak,” he said.

Lawmaker Angdembe urged the government and the ruling party lawmakers to prioritize saving the lives of the citizens rather than publicity during the time of disaster.

“This is not propaganda, this is the time to save lives. Make the question of citizens’ lives a subject of criticism and not a subject of criticism within yourself,” he said, urging the government and his colleagues in power.
