Kathmandu. The Muglin-Naubise section of the Prithvi Highway has been completely blocked due to the landslide at Krishnabhir in Dhading.
Vehicular movement to and from Kathmandu, Dhading and other districts of western Nepal including Chitwan, Tanahun, Kaski and others has been obstructed due to landslides triggered by the Trishuli river. Deputy Director General and Spokesperson of the Department of Roads, Shuvaraj Neupane said arrangements have been made to use Tribhuvan Highway and Kanti Highway as alternative routes for the time being.
Talking to Nepal News Bank, Neupane said that even big vehicles can be operated from the Tribhuvan Highway. He said that although the road is narrow, vehicles have been operating on this route before as well.
“Our plan for alternative routes is Tribhuvan Highway and Kanti Highway for now, and we are preparing to open other routes as well,” he said.
He said that although it will take time to reconstruct the permanent structure of Krishnabhir immediately, preparations are underway to open the track temporarily and bring the road into operation. “It may take some time to reconstruct the road, but we have made a 15
-day plan to open the track temporarily and bring the road into operation,” Neupane said.
According to Neupane, the change in the course of the Trishuli River has increased the risk of erosion on the road side.
‘The flow of the river has changed. The river has started flowing on the side of the road. It is eroding the road and causing damage,’ he said.
According to him, the possibility of water reaching the road has increased due to the rise in the river level.
“The water level in the river has increased. The possibility of flooding has increased up to the road. There is a risk of further damage,” he said.
According to him, the Department has been studying in other places for immediate widening or repair of roads for the operation of alternative routes, but no concrete decision has been taken yet.
