Nepal should seek climate compensation: Manish Jha

Speaking at the meeting of the House of Representatives on Thursday, lawmaker Jha said that although Nepal’s contribution to climate change is negligible, Nepal is facing the impact of it in a big way. He said Nepal was contributing to the environment conservation through expansion of forest area, use of electric vehicles and hydropower development.

He said, “Now we are not extending our hands for relief. The time has come to demand compensation. We have not created any reason, we are not responsible, yet we are paying the price.” “

MP Jha said that all Nepalis and political parties should stand together on this issue and raise their voice in the international forum.

“Now is the time for all Nepalis and all political parties to stand together on this issue and raise this voice in international forums,” he said.

Stating that Nepal Police does not even have its own helicopters, he said that the security agencies should be provided with the necessary resources so that they can rescue effectively during disasters.

‘Are our security agencies always going to do duty with sticks or are they also resourceful? We also need to think that they can work and do all the necessary rescues in such a situation,” he said.
