More than 24,000 gas cylinders entering the Kathmandu Valley, fuel supply intensified for rescue operations
Kathmandu. Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has made arrangements for the supply of petroleum products and LP gas to the Kathmandu Valley and surrounding districts using an alternative route of the Tribhuvan Highway (Byroad) after the blockage of the Krishna Bhir section of the Prithvi Highway.
The corporation has used an alternative route as the movement of petroleum tankers and gas bullets was stopped after the road collapsed on the Krishnabhir section due to the erosion of the Trishuli river on August 28. LP gas industries have been bringing cylinders from depots in the Terai to Kathmandu through the same route. According to the NOC, around 24,500 cylinders of different brands have been brought for the Kathmandu Valley today alone and the order will be increased from tomorrow.
The NOC has continued to distribute fuel to Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha and Chitwan among other districts for rescue and relief operations due to the massive floods in the Bhotekoshi River on August 26. According to the corporation, the refueling service has been operated from the army barracks in Nuwakot in coordination with the Nepal Army for the fuel management of the helicopters deployed for search and rescue operations. Since August 23, 102,000 liters of aviation fuel has been sent for refueling and this service is running regularly. Similarly, 1,
05,000 litres of petrol and 2,02,000 litres of diesel have been supplied to petrol pumps operating in flood-affected areas through the corporation’s Thankot-based Bagmati Provincial Office. Arrangements have been made to sell and distribute fuel as per the demand even on public holidays.
The NOC has already supplied 500 gas cylinders to Rasuwa and Nuwakot in coordination with the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) out of the 1,250 gas cylinders it has received from the Nepal LP Gas Industry Association.
