Rasuwa and Nuwakot at high risk of flash floods, more than 40 districts including the Kathmandu Valley urged to remain alert
Kathmandu. The Flood Forecasting Division under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has urged all to be on high alert as the water level of rivers and streams will increase significantly in different parts of the country today. The Division has stated that there is a high possibility of flash floods in the rivers flowing through Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts.
According to the information issued by the Division, the water level of the Bhotekoshi, Trishuli rivers and nearby small rivers flowing through Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts is projected to increase significantly. The people living in and around the coastal areas have been warned to take special precaution as there is a high risk of flash floods with high flow in these areas. A warning has been issued for moderate risk to small rivers and rivulets flowing through more than 40 districts of the country including all three districts (Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur) of the Kathmandu Valley. Taplejung, Panchthar, Tehrathum, Sankhuwasabha and Solukhumbu under Koshi Province, Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Dolakha, Ramechhap, Sindhuli, Kavrepalanchowk, Sindhupalchowk, Dhading, Makawanpur and Chitwan under Bagmati Province. Similarly, Gorkha, Tanahu, Lamjung, Kaski, Syangja, Parbat and Myagdi, Nawalparasi (east), Nawalparasi (west), Jajarkot, Surkhet, Dailekh, Kalikot, Jumla, Mugu and Humla districts are also at risk of floods. The water level in the small rivers and rivulets flowing through these districts is likely to increase significantly and there is a moderate risk of flash floods.
People living in low lying areas along the banks of rivers and streams, erosion risk areas and near steep slopes have been urged to remain vigilant. Also, the local administration and concerned authorities have been requested to take special precautions while carrying out any activities along the river banks and be prepared for emergencies.
