Kathmandu. The family of Sanjay Sah, who was rescued alive after 10 days from the tunnel of Trishuli-3 ‘A’ hydropower project, is now overjoyed.

The family, which had been hoping that Sanjay was alive for a long time, said that the hope of his safe rescue after a few days is fading. Sanjay’s maternal uncle Rishidev Sah was in Kathmandu.

He came to know through the media that Sanjay was rescued alive from the tunnel on Wednesday. After receiving a call from home, he immediately went to Chhauni Hospital.

He said that he realized the news of his rescue only after reaching the hospital and seeing Sanjay directly. Talking to Nepal News Bank, Rishidev said, “Sanjay Sah is my nephew. I live in Kathmandu. When I came to know that I was rescued, I also got a call from home. Then I came here. According to him, Sanjay looked weak due to staying inside the tunnel for a long time, but now his condition is normal.

Rishidev said that while talking to the family, he knew everyone and told them that there was no problem.

But the 10 days that Sanjay spent inside the tunnel were very difficult. The flash floods created a rush for the workers inside the tunnel to save their lives.

According to Rishidev, when the flood started coming, Sanjay also came to know about it. Other people working inside the tunnel were also asked to run away. After this, Sanjay went to the upper part in search of a place where he could be safe.

‘There was a sudden flood. There were other people doing other work. He also went up in the tunnel,” he said.

He said that there was a four-

five storey-like structure inside the tunnel and Sanjay had reached the sixth floor. But the situation became more dangerous when water started coming from the alternative route.

To avoid the flow of water, Sanjay had taken the help of the swept wood. When he reached the place where the water had not entered, he was sitting there and saving his life.

‘The wood that was swept away got stuck. There was no water on the sixth floor. He stayed there and spent a couple of days there,” he said.

After this, Sanjay took shelter in a ventilation-like place inside the tunnel, according to the family.

His biggest problem was drinking water and food. Rishidev said that after not getting food for a long time, he used to drink the water available inside the tunnel from a cloth.

‘There was a problem with food. He took off his shirt and filtered the water with a vest and drank the same water lightly,” he said.

The family is still finding it hard to believe Sanjay’s condition. How he managed to save himself in a dark tunnel for 10 days, amidst the dangers of floods and water, has become a miracle for the family as well.

Before Sanjay’s rescue, the family’s hopes were gradually weakening. In the initial days, there was hope that they might be staying in a safe place somewhere inside because the tunnel was big. But as the days passed, the family started accepting the possibility of bad news. Rishidev said, “It had been seven

or eight days, now we had lost love.” The hope of being alive was also gradually diminishing. “

But the news that came on Friday morning suddenly changed the situation of the family. He said that they were very emotional after hearing the good news that they had been waiting for a long time.

‘I have to say that not only me, but the whole of Nepal is happy to hear the news of the rescue. In such a situation, it was a miracle to be found alive after 10 days,” he said.

The family feels that Sanjay has got a new life by the grace of God. Rishidev said that the family has taken it even more special as he was saved especially on the day of Krishna Janmashtami.

‘Today is God’s birthday. On this day, our nephew was also reborn. It is God’s grace, a miracle happened,” he said.

Sanjay is currently undergoing treatment at the hospital. The family members are confident that his health will gradually improve. Rishidev said that although his body was weak after staying in the tunnel for a long time, he is now able to know his relatives, talk on the phone and is in a normal condition.

After Sanjay’s rescue, not only his family but also the general public who have been informed about the incident are happy. The family says that this incident has raised hopes that the person who has been missing for a long time can be rescued alive.

Rishidev has also wished for the safe rescue of the people who are still at risk or out of contact inside the tunnel.
