Power supply disrupted in Humla for five days

Hemanta KC, Nepal News Bank

Surkhet. Power supply has been disrupted in Humla for the past five days. The service has been disrupted due to a problem at the power house under the Nepal Electricity Authority’s Heldung Distribution Center in Humla. The people of Humla have been forced to live in darkness due to the shutdown of power supply.

According to the notice issued by the Heldung Distribution Center, the power supply has been disrupted due to a problem in the governor’s control of the unit-9 operating at the power house.

According to the distribution center, the power supply from the distribution center will be disrupted in the entire area from September 1 until another notice is issued as the problem could not be resolved immediately from the technical manpower available there.

The disruption of power supply has affected the daily life of government and non-government offices, health institutions, banks and financial institutions, media, businesses and the general public.

Locals say that there is a problem in charging mobile phones and operating internet and electronic equipment due to the lack of electricity for a long time. Locals have demanded that alternative arrangements should be adopted to restore electricity supply immediately and a long-term solution should be found to such problems.

Meanwhile, former Chief Minister and State Assembly member Jeevan Bahadur Shahi has drawn the serious attention of the federal government to resume electricity supply in Humla immediately. Shahi has demanded the government to immediately bring the diesel plant in Humla into operation and resume the power supply until the problem seen in the power house is resolved. He also drew the attention of the government to immediately manage the skilled manpower required for the operation of the electricity service. Shahi said that the citizens of the remote mountainous districts have the right to get basic services and facilities like any other citizen. “The people of Humla are also citizens of this state. The citizens of Humla also have the same right to live in the light,” Shahi said, adding that the state cannot deprive the people living in the remote Himalayan region of basic services.
