President of Nepal Teachers’ Federation Laxmi Kishor Subedi has said that there is a lack of institutional memory in documenting the history of the teachers’ movement.
Speaking at a program organized to release the book ‘History of Teachers’ Movement’ written by Subedi, Subedi said that the teachers’ movement that had been organized since 2036 BS has not been adequately documented till 2083 BS. He said that the organizations were formed since 2007 BS and it was unfortunate that the history of the teachers’ movement could not be documented in a systematic way.
He said, “The teachers’ movement, which started in an organized manner since 2036 BS, could not be adequately documented even after reaching 2083 BS. The organizations started in 2007 BS, but we do not have the institutional memory. It is a matter of pain for all that we are not able to document the history of the teachers’ movement in a systematic way.” He said that he had studied various sources and materials while preparing the history of the teachers’ movement. According to him, he went to the Central Library in Kirtipur and studied old newspapers including Gorkhapatra and searched for souvenirs and other materials of various organizations and organizations.
He said that he had personally interviewed the old teacher leaders and recorded them. Subedi said that in the course of writing history, he has included only the officially proven facts in the book.
He said, “There are many things missing in there, if the authenticity of the missing things is verified, we will definitely include it in the second and third editions.” Subedi said that both positive and negative aspects should be included while writing history. Stating that not presenting the correct information would be an injustice to the history, he said that he was conscious to present the facts in such a way that the reputation of a person would be tarnished as much as possible.
In the program, he said that along with the stance and activism of the leadership in the teachers’ movement, he also gives importance to the intellectual aspect. He expressed the opinion that the intellectual aspect of Keshav Dai is the strongest among the leaders he has met in the teachers’ movement.
He expressed his commitment to make the history of the teachers’ movement more refined and enriched in the coming days. He said that the suggestions, missing facts and verified materials to be received after the publication of the book will be included in the upcoming edition.
