Rasuwa floods: 1,131 bodies found, 5,000 uncontacted, 13,000 rescued
Kathmandu. So far, 1,131 bodies have been recovered and around 5,000 people are still missing in the devastating floods in the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers of Rasuwa. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has intensified the search, rescue and relief operations in the district.
A Chinese national and a 64-year-old woman from Betrawati of Bidur Municipality-10 in Nuwakot district were rescued alive from the audit tunnel number 4 of the Upper Trishuli-1 Hydropower Project today. According to the NRA, out of 1,131 bodies recovered, only 18 have been identified and handed over to their families so far. The bodies recovered include human organs found in different places.
The bodies swept away by the floods have been found in eight different districts. According to the report, 222 bodies were found in Nawalparasi East, 219 in Nawalparasi West, 195 in Nuwakot, 160 in Chitwan, 156 in Rasuwa, 74 in Gorkha, 67 in Dhading and 38 in Tanahun.
According to the data received from the Nuwakot district administration, about
2,340 people are from the Nuwakot district administration, 1,967 from Rasuwa, 589 foreign nationals and about 100 security personnel and staff. The NRA has clarified that the list of unidentified bodies and the names of some rescued people may have been repeated in this list of contactless people.
So far, 13,101 people have been rescued safely from the affected areas. Of them, 4,871 have been rescued by the Armed Police Force, 4,162 by the Nepal Army (275 foreigners, 3,687 Nepalis and 200 on the ground) by the Nepal Army and 4,068 by the Nepal Police. Among the rescued are 304 foreign nationals. The Nepal Army has so far conducted 173 sorties for the rescue operation and 121 times through private helicopters. A total of 5,129 people have been treated in the floods, including 3,297 from the Nepal Army, 1,516 from the Armed Police Force and 316 in various hospitals. ,465 security personnel, including 9,287 from the Nepal Army, 7,975 from the Nepal Police and 4,203 from the Armed Police Force, have been mobilized for search and rescue in the field. The government has released Rs 1÷10 million in cash relief to Rasuwa and Nuwakot, Rs 5 million to Dhading and Rs 135 million to the 15 most affected municipalities.
Food and non-food materials have been sent to the affected areas by 83 trucks, 38 Boleros and 9 helicopter flights from Kathmandu. Similarly, the Armed Police Force has flown 173 flights to Nuwakot and Rasuwa to transport relief materials. According to the authority, 57,000 liters of diesel, 20,000 liters of petrol and 13,000 liters of aviation fuel are in stock in the affected areas.
