Congress to donate one crore rupees to relief fund
Kathmandu. The Nepali Congress has contributed one crore rupees to the Prime Minister Natural Disaster Relief Fund for the relief and rehabilitation of the people affected by floods and landslides in Rasuwa, Nuwakot and other areas.
A team led by Nepali Congress General Secretary Pradeep Poudel handed over the cheque to the Finance Minister. General Secretary Poudel, NCP treasurer Umesh Shrestha and member of the House of Representatives, Mohan Acharya, were also present in the delegation.
A few days ago, the massive floods in places like Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers flowing through Rasuwa and Nuwakot areas had caused huge loss of life and property in the area. Many houses have been displaced due to the floods and there has been extensive damage to physical infrastructure.
General Secretary Poudel said that the NC has provided the amount to the government to help in providing immediate relief, health treatment and safe shelter to the victim families in times of disaster. Handing over the amount, General Secretary Poudel said that the Nepali Congress is with all the flood-affected citizens in this hour of crisis. Expressing concern over the delay in the rescue of people stranded in various places including tunnel way due to floods and landslides, he drew the government’s serious attention.
“I urge the government to immediately correct the delay in the rescue of the people trapped in the tunnel and expedite the rescue operation,” Poudel said.
He also demanded the rescue of the affected people around Trishuli and Bhotekoshi and the reconstruction of the collapsed infrastructure on a war footing. He also drew the attention of the government to make the relief distribution transparent and to make the overall disaster management more efficient and effective.
On the occasion, party general secretary Pradip Poudel expressed his commitment to provide all necessary support to the government for disaster management, search for the disappeared and long-term rehabilitation of the displaced people.
