KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress has donated Rs one crore to the Prime Minister’s Natural Disaster Relief Fund for the relief and rehabilitation of the people affected by floods and landslides in Rasuwa, Nuwakot and other areas. A team led by Nepali Congress General Secretary Pradip Poudel handed over a cheque equivalent to the amount to the Finance Minister.
The delegation included General Secretary Poudel along with party treasurer Umesh Shrestha and member of the House of Representatives from Rasuwa, Mohan Acharya. A few days ago, the massive floods that occurred in places like Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers flowing through Rasuwa and Nuwakot areas had caused huge loss of life and property. Many houses have been displaced due to the floods and there has been extensive damage to physical infrastructure.
NC General Secretary Poudel said that the NC has provided the amount to the government to help in providing immediate relief, health treatment and safe shelter to the victim families in times of disaster.
Handing over the amount, General Secretary Poudel said that the Nepali Congress is with all the flood-affected people in this hour of crisis.
Expressing concern over the delay in the rescue of the people stranded in various places including the tunnel way due to floods and landslides, he drew the serious attention of the government.
“I urge the government to immediately correct the delay in the rescue of the people trapped in the tunnel and expedite the rescue of the stranded citizens,” Poudel said.
He also demanded that the rescue of the affected people of Trishuli and Bhotekoshi and the reconstruction of the collapsed infrastructure be taken forward on a war footing. He also drew the attention of the government to make the relief distribution transparent and to make the overall disaster management more efficient and effective.
On the occasion, NC general secretary Pradip Poudel pledged to provide all necessary support to the government for disaster management, search for the disappeared and rehabilitate the displaced people.
