The sacrifice of martyrs ‘Basu’ and ‘Bairagi’ has given a new height to the People’s War: Prachanda

Coordinator of the Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said that the sacrifice of martyrs Suresh Wagle ‘Basu’ and Bhimsen Pokhrel ‘Bairagi’ had given new energy to the movement against the then state and had played an important role in taking the people’s war to a new height.
Addressing the 27th memorial assembly of martyrs Suresh Wagle and Bhimsen Pokhrel in Kathmandu today, Chairman Dahal said that the day on which Wagle and Pokhrel attained martyrdom in Gorkha in 1990 was a very important day for the Nepali revolutionary movement.
He said, “Suresh Wagle and Bhimsen Pokhrel attained martyrdom in Gorkha in 2056 BS. The martyrdom from the highest leadership rank of the party’s politburo level created anger and energy among the people and the revolutionary line against the then state power and took the People’s War to a new height.” “
Chairman Prachanda said that there is still a reactionary conspiracy against the federal democratic republic achieved through the sacrifice of the martyrs and that standing consciously and firmly against it would be true respect to the martyrs.
“Suresh Wagle’s integrity, ideals and political stature were very high. The new determination and energy that arose after his sacrifice contributed significantly to take the People’s War to new heights and establish it as a national force,” he said.
He said that the contribution and ideals of Bhimsen Pokhrel, the skilled commander of the People’s Liberation Army, are equally important. Stating that efforts were being made to wipe out the achievements gained through the movement and sacrifice, Prachanda stressed the need to move ahead with new determination and energy against such tendencies.
“The reactionary forces are trying to erase the achievements made through the movement and sacrifice. In such a situation, there is a need to move forward with new determination and energy by embracing the dreams and contributions of the martyrs,” he said.
