Lawmaker Dulal urges to install early warning system in Tatopani, Barhabise and other riverside settlements
Kathmandu. Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) lawmaker Yubaraj Dulal has urged the government to effectively and continuously carry out the search for the people missing in the Bhotekoshi floods.
Speaking at the meeting of the House of Representatives on Wednesday, Dulal said that 239 people are still missing in the floods in the Bhotekoshi River in Sindhupalchowk district.
He drew the attention of the government to effectively carry out the search for the missing people. He also stressed on the need to immediately install early warning system in the river banks by learning lessons from disasters like floods and landslides.
He said, “239 people are still missing from Sindhupalchowk district in the floods of Bhotekoshi on August 23. I strongly urge the government to continue the search for all the missing people in an effective manner.” “
MP Dulal said that the floods in Melamchi in the past and the floods in Bhotekoshi in the past have further terrified the people living on the banks of the river.
According to him, the settlements on the banks of the rivers including Tatopani and Barhabise in Sindhupalchowk are in a difficult situation due to the risk of floods.
He called on the government to immediately install early warning system in the settlements along the rivers to reduce the risk of disaster.
He said, “Awareness should be created from the incident. Once upon a time, the flood in Melamchi was unimaginable. Now the flood in the Bhotekoshi river seems unimaginable to all of us. Even now, many settlements on the banks of the river, including Tatopani, Barhabise in Sindhupalchowk district, are reeling from various information about when the flood will occur. That is why we have been demanding from the past that we have repeatedly asked the government to install an early warning system in the settlements along the river. That should be installed and awareness should be created from the incident. ’
