President Poudel urges government to resume road operation in Bhotekoshi before Dashain

Kathmandu. President Ram Chandra Poudel has drawn the attention of the government to expedite works including immediate management of the flood-affected people of Bhotekoshi, reconstruction and rehabilitation including operation of roads and transport. He also suggested seeking the support of the international community in the construction of infrastructure including big bailey bridges if our capacity is not possible to operate road transport considering the geographical remoteness.

He also suggested that the Prime Minister should raise voice in the international community so that Nepal should get compensation for the loss caused by climate change. President Poudel held separate meetings with Minister for Foreign Affairs Sishir Khanal and Minister for Infrastructure Development Sunil Lamsal at the Office of the President, Sheetal Niwas, on Wednesday. Stating that he had seen the condition of the victims and the damage caused by the floods during his on-site inspection of the flood-affected areas, he stressed that the reconstruction of the settlements and damaged structures should be forwarded with short-term, mid-term and long-term thinking. President Poudel urged the government to prioritise immediate works to ease and simplify the lives of the people in the flood-affected areas. Member of the House of Representatives Arjun Narsingh KC and Chief of Army Staff Ashok Raj Sigdel were present in the meeting with Minister Khanal. On the occasion, the ministers informed that the work was going on day and night to resume road transport before Dashain festival and to construct temporary tents (capsule homes) for the settlement of flood-affected people. The ministers also informed the President that the government has expedited the construction of alternative roads and requested the friendly countries for long bailey bridges and the government has forwarded other necessary plans.
