Hunga River in Solukhumbu blocked by landslide, urged to be on high alert in coastal areas
Kathmandu. The Hunga (Hungku) river has been blocked due to a landslide at Gudel in Mahakulung Rural Municipality of Solukhumbu. A dam about 15 meters high was formed due to the landslide from above the river and the landslide is still continuing.
Quoting the District Administration Office, Solukhumbu, the Flood Forecasting Division under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has issued a notice and informed about the risks.
The dam built after the river is blocked due to landslides has increased the risk of bursting at any time. Due to this, there is a great risk of flooding in the banks and surrounding areas of Hunga (Hungku) River and Dudhkoshi River.
The Division has made a special request to the residents of the Hunga River and Dudhkoshi River banks to be on high alert and stay in safe places until further notice. The local administration and security agencies are closely monitoring the situation.
