Rasuwa Bhotekoshi floods: Affected children admitted to school in Kathmandu, Acting Chief Dangol’s initiative to reduce mental trauma
Kathmandu. The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has started continuing the school education of 132 children who were displaced by the Bhotekoshi floods in Rasuwa. The KMC has made arrangements for the children to study at the Geetamata School located in the Dallu residential area.
Textbooks and mid-day meal have been arranged for the students. On the first day, 59 children were present in the classroom.
Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Acting Mayor Sunita Dangol herself reached the school and encouraged the students to understand the needs of children and to lessen the deep pain caused by the disaster.
Discussing with the principals and teachers, acting chief Dangol said, “Our words and behavior should not hurt the children further. Help them to forget the trauma of the heart by treating them with affection. Instead of memorizing books and texts right now, pay attention to counseling to remove the fear in them. “
Executive members, people’s representatives and officials of the Education Department are facilitating the creation of a child-friendly environment by reaching the school to attract the students to study. Some of the children who came to school have lost both their parents, while some have only one father or mother. Some children with families have also completely lost their homes and residences.

Koshis Nepal’ has arranged school bags, uniforms and psychosocial counselling for these school-going students. Similarly, ‘LRI School’ has provided transportation to and from the shelter to the school, said Sushil Subedi, senior officer of the Education Department.
On the second day of the school, 61 students attended the school. According to Hari Krishna Shrestha, principal of Geetamata School, students who were mentally ready to come to school are slowly returning to the classroom.
He said, “Children who are under deep mental stress are not forced, efforts are being made to bring them back to normal gradually through counselling and the attendance of students is increasing every day.” “
132 children who are in contact with the metropolis are studying from Early Childhood Development (ECD) to Grade 12. The highest number of 45 are in Class 1. Similarly, there are 2-2 students in ECD and Class 10, 1-1 in Nursery, UKG and Class 12.
Similarly, there are 8 students in class 2, 11 in class 3, 12 in class 4, nine in class 5, 6 each in class 6 and 7, 11 in class 8, 10 in class 9 and five in class 11.
