Kathmandu. Nepali Congress leader and medical entrepreneur Sunil Sharma has announced that one thousand major surgeries will be done free of cost for the patients of poor financial condition.

Koirala Foundation) on Friday, Sharma announced that Kathmandu Medical College (KMC) Duwakot and Biratnagar-based Nobel Medical College would perform one thousand major surgeries free of cost for the patients who could not get treatment due to financial constraints.
“We don’t know if the patient is not able to do it, but we want to announce that we will conduct one thousand surgeries free of cost at Duwakot of Kathmandu Medical College and Nobel Medical College in Biratnagar,” he said.

Dr. Sharma said that he is also preparing to take forward the scholarship program in the coming days. He said that more announcements will be made after discussing with the chairperson of the foundation, Sujata Koirala. On Friday, Koirala had handed over the responsibility of the chairman of the foundation to Dr. Sharma.
In the program, Sharma recalled that he had a long political and personal relationship with Girija Prasad Koirala. He said that he had even taken the general membership of the Congress by getting the signature of Girija Prasad Koirala. Recalling that Girija Prasad Koirala had helped him to advance in the medical sector, Sharma said that Koirala had also played an important role in securing affiliation to Nobel Medical College. Sharma claimed that Girija Prasad Koirala helped him get affiliation to the medical college without asking for any personal gains. He said that he got a lot of inspiration and support from Koirala not only in politics but also in the business sector. Sharma said that he would expand various activities in all 77 districts of the country through the foundation to continue the legacy of Girija Prasad Koirala. Sharma also said that the NC should adopt the teachings of BP Koirala to revolt when there is injustice and dominance of big men. Referring to party President Gagan Thapa as the political continuity of BP Koirala and Girija Prasad Koirala, he said the NC should be taken ahead with new energy and enthusiasm.
