Demand for immediate arrest and investigation of the Prime Minister’s Chief Advisor

Kathmandu. The Genji Movement Nepal has demanded the immediate arrest of Kumar Ben, the chief advisor to the Prime Minister, and the government to conduct an impartial and thorough investigation.

In a press statement issued on Friday, Vijay Shah, spokesperson of the Genji Movement Nepal, said that Ben has been accused of being involved in serious criminal activities like call bypass and alleged non-transparent links with foreign intelligence agencies.

The statement said that it is a travesty of the rule of law to put a person who is seriously accused in a sensitive post like the chief advisor to the Prime Minister. Genji Movement Nepal says that one should not be exempt from investigation on the basis of position and access.

The movement has also questioned Kumar Benn’s eligibility to appoint the prime minister’s chief adviser, saying he has been given a state minister-level facility but his educational qualification is only SLC. The movement has also sensitively raised the issue of the ruling party’s lawmaker making a statement in the parliament that the real power center of the government is not Singha Durbar. The prime minister’s chief adviser has been accused of alleged meetings and contacts with foreign intelligence agencies, it said, adding that it is a matter related to national security. “If the Prime Minister raises questions about Nepal’s border encroachment and national sovereignty in the parliament, but remains silent when his chief adviser is accused of having non-transparent links with the so-called spy apparatus of the same country, then serious questions will be raised on the government’s intentions,” the movement said.

It has also demanded that he be immediately relieved of his government responsibilities to prevent the possibility of the investigation being affected. The movement has said that strict action should be taken in accordance with the prevailing laws, including sedition, if national security, sovereignty or external influence or access to sensitive government information is proven.
