The basis on which the common people of Rasuwa were living has completely ended: Kulman Ghising

Kathmandu. Chairman of Ujjyalo Nepal Party, Kulman Ghising, has said that the devastating floods in Rasuwa have destroyed the main basis for the survival of the common people of the district.

Addressing a program organized by the Independent Power Producers’ Association (IPPAN) on Friday, Ghising said that the floods have caused a huge loss to the social, economic and human structure of Rasuwa. He said that due to the disaster, Rasuwa has been pushed back by 20 to 30 years and a generation has been wiped out.

He said that this disaster has affected the general public of Rasuwa, on the basis of which Rasuwa has been developing as an important center of tourism and trade in recent times and people from many districts have started reaching there for employment. However, he said that the flood has destroyed that base.

He said, “I have never seen such a big disaster. If we look at the social aspect of this disaster, it has pushed Rasuwa for 20-30 years. It has wiped out a generation. Because there was such a huge tourism and trade hub that people from many districts started going to work. In such a situation, this disaster has completely destroyed the basis on which the common people of Rasuwa were living. “

According to him, the future of Rasuwa is in danger due to the floods. He said that from the humanitarian and social point of view, it has come as a very big disaster for Rasuwa.

He said, “Such a big disaster has come as a big disaster for Rasuwa from the human and social point of view. I feel that Rasuwa has reached the same situation as it was before Chilime came.” Ghising said that the technical manpower of Rasuwa has also been greatly affected due to the floods. He said that the local technical manpower who were given scholarships during the construction of Chilime Hydropower Project has also been affected by the current disaster.

He said, “The technical people of Rasuwa are almost finished. There were also people who were taught by us with scholarships. I am very sad to see the very painful condition of Rasuwa.” He said that the impact of the disaster on the infrastructure and life of the people there could be serious as there are many projects in the hydropower corridor of Rasuwa. Stating that the corridor has faced disasters time and again in the past, he pointed out the need to pay special attention to risk mitigation.

He said, “There are many hydropower projects in that corridor. That corridor has faced disasters about five times. ’
