Kathmandu. Blue Diamond Society, the first non-governmental organization in Nepal that has been raising voice in favor of the Sexual and Gender Minority (LGBTIQPLUS) community, has completed 25 years.

The organization, which is preparing for a special program on the occasion of the silver

, has called on all to unite and strengthen the issues of the community by postponing its scheduled programs for the time being.

Issuing a notice on Saturday morning, the Society said that the journey of 25 years has been full of ups and downs, challenges and opportunities, unexpected circumstances, moments of joy and sorrow, resistance and patience.

“In the face of all odds, we have stood united, made our voices heard, challenged discrimination and discrimination, created safe and inclusive spaces for our communities, expanded relationships of partnerships and collaborations, and carried forward our continued campaign for equality, dignity, justice, and queer rights.”

This journey has also provided us with many important achievements and milestones. Behind every success is the courage of our community, the dedication of our team, the solidarity of our colleagues and colleagues, and the continued support of all those who walk with us,” the notice said. Nepal, which has been practicing inclusive democracy, has been deprived of the rights of the people of the sexual and gender community due to lack of implementation. Sexual minorities are still the most excluded and institutionally neglected in Nepal, according to rights activists. In the preamble of the Constitution of Nepal, 2072 BS, in the preamble of the 25 years of the establishment of the organization, the resolution to build an equitable society with social justice by ending class, caste, gender discrimination etc. has accepted the universal recognition of human rights that people of different gender identities should live with dignity. Article 12 of the Constitution provides for citizenship with gender identity. Similarly, Article 18 provides for the right to equality. It clearly states that there should be no discrimination on the basis of gender and sexual minority. Similarly, Article 42 provides for the right to social justice.

Article also states that sexual and gender minorities shall have the right to representation in every policy-making position of the state on the basis of the principle of inclusion.

Many achievements have been made in the context of the rights of the community in the constitution, acts and laws.

In the first Constituent Assembly election of 2064 BS, the founder of the Society, Sunil Babu Panta and now Bhumika Shrestha got the opportunity to work as members of the House of Representatives, while the government has formed the Ministry of Women, Children, Gender and Sexual Minority and Social Security.

Sunil Babu Pant, one of the founders, has written about the cumbersome process of registering the organization.

The small beginnings of that time laid the foundation for a great social movement in Nepal, thousands of people found the courage to speak out for their existence, and learned to question equality with the state along with the voice demanding their rights.
