Health and intimacy over fasting on Teej

Santoshi Rawal, Nepal Newsbank

Kathmandu. Although there is a tradition of fasting on Teej wishing for the long life of the husband, there has been a debate about it from various angles.

Women have stressed on the need to provide healthy food, take care of them when they are sick, and maintain love and support, saying that staying hungry for a day does not make their husbands long. They also suggest that they should take care of their health while keeping their stomachs hungry.

According to them, even though Teej is a festival of tradition and culture, we should give priority to our health, desires and comfort rather than taking it as a superstition or compulsion. Actress Swishiccha Poudel said that the love and care for her husband should be real and that true care given to her husband during illness or difficulty strengthens the relationship and life.

‘The love and care for the husband should be real. A day’s fasting alone does not increase the lifespan,” she said, “True care when sick or in distress strengthens the relationship and life.” They say that the notion that the festival should be celebrated only by wearing jewelry and expensive clothes on Teej is also wrong. They say that they have the ability to wear jewelry and wear it if they want, but it is natural to wear it if they want, but they should change the mindset that they should also do the same after seeing others wearing it.

Shraddha Shrestha said that jewelry does not determine a woman’s personality, identity and self-confidence.

“The biggest thing is to learn to enjoy what we are capable of. Jewelry does not determine our personality, identity and self-confidence,” she said, “If we get happiness by wearing jewelry, then it is their personal choice, they should be able to enjoy it.” But now we need to change the mindset that we should wear it just because others wear it. Richa Sharma said that Teej is an opportunity for women to come together and share happiness, sing and dance and take a break from their busy routine.

He said that even though religious and cultural traditions are important in their place, if someone likes to wear jewelry and jewelry, they should be allowed to enjoy it as they wish, and those who do not like it should also be respected for the same choice.

‘Teej is a great opportunity for women to come together and share happiness. It is to wish for the long life of their husbands and to preserve the tradition. Tradition is our identity,” she said, “Every person has his own opinion and choice. If someone likes to celebrate this festival or decorate it, then they should enjoy it. If someone does not like it, it is their personal opinion and it should also be respected.” “

Asiban Begum of the Muslim community said that even though there is a difference in religion, we will respect all Nepali festivals and traditions by embracing the spirit of unity in the diversity of Nepali society.

She recalled that she had acted in singer Sunita Dulal’s Teej song wearing a red saree and red bangles.

She said, “I have just acted in Sunita Dulal’s Teej song. I have also danced in a red saree and red bangles,” she said, adding, “I respect and embrace the festivals and traditions celebrated by every Nepali.” “

Their common belief is that the happiness of Teej should not be in jewelry, expensive clothes or appearances, but in their own ability, desire, health, intimacy and self-confidence.
