Kathmandu. Today, the great festival of Hindu women, Haritalika Teej, is being celebrated with the wish of unbroken good fortune.
In this festival, which is celebrated on the day of Bhadra Shukla Tritiya, married and unmarried women observe a fast and worship Lord Shiva and Parvati.
Married women celebrate Teej by fasting for the long life of their husbands.
It is customary to fast on Teej according to the classical belief that unmarried young men and women should get a virtuous bride or groom. Goddess Mahadev is worshipped on the occasion of Haritalika Teej festival, which is celebrated on the third day of Bhadra Shukla Tritiya.
There is a religious belief that fasting on Bhadra Shukla Tritiya and worshiping Lord Shiva and Parvati brings happiness, peace and well-being in the family.
