Kathmandu. The 8th Mayor Cup Lalitpur Metropolitan City Inter-Ward Table Tennis Tournament is to be held in December this year.
According to Nikesh Prasad Joshi, technical chief of the tournament, 17 events will be contested. According to the organizers, around 500 players will participate in the competition. Cash prizes have been arranged in all 17 events.
The total prize money of the tournament to be organized by Lalitpur District Table Tennis Association is Rs 5 lakh. The week-long tournament will be held in Khokana of Lalitpur from December 20.
Rabindra Maharjan, chairman of Ward No. 21, said that the objective of organizing the tournament in the historical and cultural city of Khokana is to protect and promote the original art, culture, tradition, historical identity and local heritages along with the development of sports. He said that the tournament will help in identifying new talents and will also help in the development of table tennis at the local level.
According to the organizers, the tournament will also be conducted on a nightly basis. It is estimated that around Rs 31 lakh will be spent to conduct the tournament.
