Education should make citizens responsible towards society, culture and nation: President Poudel

‘The real purpose of education is not limited to getting good results in examinations or getting certificates. Education is a powerful means to develop knowledge, wisdom, character and sense of responsibility of a person. Therefore, education should help a person to be aware and responsible towards his or her society, culture, history and nation,” he said.

He said that Nepal is a country rich in diverse languages, cultures, traditions and lifestyles and the education we impart should respect the diversity of the country and play an important role in developing the feelings of national unity, social harmony and coexistence among the students. He said that the times are changing, but with the change, our basic human values need to be further strengthened.

In the modern era of rapid development of information technology, the answer to the question of what kind of nation we want to build and what kind of manpower is needed for tomorrow should also be found in our education system. For that, emphasis should be laid on curriculum and teaching learning as per the demand of the time along with the maximum use of technology,” said President Poudel.

He said that the main responsibility of today’s education sector is to build citizens with morality, discipline, creativity, cooperation, compassion and social responsibility along with knowledge and skills. “At the same time, I believe that special attention should be given to providing education that inculcates the feeling of patriotism in every citizen by creating production and employment conditions in the country to promote import substitution and export,” President Poudel said.
