Kathmandu. The Nepali Congress has decided to increase the number of joint general secretaries to 15. A new structure has been set up giving priority to inclusive representation through the amendment of the statute.

As per the new provision, there will be a total of 15 joint general secretaries, including 9 on the basis of inclusion, 2 on the basis of open category and 4 on the basis of the president.

Under the inclusive group, one joint general secretary will be elected from women, indigenous nationalities, Dalits, Madhesi, Khas Arya, Tharu, Muslim, backward regions and minorities and differently-abled communities.

The minority/disabled cluster was not included in the previous Congress. However, the new amendment has brought these groups under the ambit of representation.

The party president has the right to nominate four joint general secretaries including one woman compulsory.

The amendment is seen as an attempt to ensure inclusivity and balanced representation within the party.
