Kathmandu. Neonatologist and pediatrician Dr. Pradip Mishra has announced his candidacy for the post of central general convention representative from the professional subject expert group for the 15th general convention of the Nepali Congress.
He has been providing excellent service in the health sector since long from Dhangadhi of Kailali district, with high professional experience and strong political commitment to make an effective contribution to the policy making level of the party.
Dr. Mishra’s political journey is very long. His father Narayan Mishra is a loyal, popular and people-loving leader of the Nepali Congress as well as the former chairman of the then District Development Committee.
Due to his father’s political activism, there was a constant gathering of top leaders, thought leaders and intellectuals in the house since childhood.
Dr. Koirala grew up in this democratic environment. From an early age, deep political consciousness was formed in Egypt, BP Koirala’s deep faith in democratic socialism and democratic values.
Since his student days, he had consistently raised his voice for democracy and students’ rights under the banner of Nepal Student Union (NSU). Dr.
Mishra, who completed his MBBS from Kathmandu Medical College in 2007, started his career as a neonatologist and pediatrician in his hometown Dhangadhi in 2015.
While treating hundreds of patients on a daily basis, he had the opportunity to closely observe the serious and complex health problems faced by the citizens of rural and impoverished communities in the far west.
He was touched by the fact that Nepal’s existing health system has not been able to ensure the constitutional right to easy and accessible treatment and many citizens are still out of reach of treatment. Dr. Mishra, who has been providing financial assistance to the indigent patients along with the treatment of the patients, Mishra felt that the big problems of the society cannot be solved only by personal support, for this it is necessary to bring a radical change at the policy level.
‘Politics is the main policy of all policies. The restructuring of health and social policies is a matter that can be solved at the political level. Therefore, I am in the race for the central member of the Congress with the aim of working in favour of the people at the policy level. I will work as a subject expert there. I will give suggestions to the party to solve the problems of the health sector. I will ask the government to put pressure on the party to implement these plans,” Mishra said while announcing his candidacy.
In his professional circle, Dr. Mishra is a well-established person as a skilled organizer and leader. He has successfully served as the former secretary and former president of Nepal Medical Association, Far-Western Branch.
Similarly, he has been continuously active in uniting democratic professionals as the coordinator of the Democratic Doctors Association Far-Western Province. Mishra has also worked as an expert advisor to Govinda Bohara, former Social Development Minister of the Far-Western Province Government.
He also pledged to incorporate his long experience and thematic expertise in the health service into the party’s policy, planning and decision-making process. His main priority is to bring about comprehensive reforms in the National Health Policy to guarantee the constitutional right of every poor and underprivileged citizen of Nepal to accessible, accessible and quality health services.
In addition, Dr. Mishra has resolved to institutionally strengthen and modernize the party on the basis of democratic values by connecting the voices of intellectuals, doctors, engineers and other professional groups to the mainstream of the party. He has also urged all the delegates of the convention to vote invaluable votes to make them victorious.
