Dhangadhi. Heavy rain in Kailali on Monday night damaged the paddy crop that was harvested in the field. According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division, heavy rainfall occurred in Kailali and Bardiya due to the influence of the westerly wind. Due to the rain, the paddy harvested in the fields got soaked and the straw was also damaged.

Farmers in western Terai are busy harvesting paddy at this time. Ghanashyam Chaudhary, chief of Agriculture Knowledge Center, Kailali, said that the damage is caused by harvesting paddy by ignoring the weather conditions.

According to him, even though the knowledge center has been warning the farmers about the possibility of rain, there is a tendency to cut the paddy by ignoring it. He said that if the harvested paddy is not kept in a safe place, it causes damage. It is estimated that around 15 percent of paddy has been harvested in the district as of Monday, according to the Knowledge Centre.
