My candidacy for the campaign of making ‘we’ from ‘I’: Chandra Bhandari
NC vice-president candidates Bhandari, Gurung and Sita Gurung have their own agenda
. The leaders who have filed their candidacy for the post of vice-president to elect a new working committee under the 15th General Convention of the Nepali Congress have given priority to the transformation, strengthening of the party and inclusive democracy.
Talking to Nepal News Bank during the filing of nominations on Tuesday, candidate for the post
of vice-president, Chandra Bhandari, said that the main agenda of his candidacy was to transform the Nepali Congress from ‘I’ to ‘our’ and from ‘our’ to ‘we’.
Stating that the Nepali Congress is a party of four generations, he said the first generation struggled to transform the party from ‘I’ to ‘we’ and from ‘we’ to ‘ours’. He said, “This party is a party of four generations.
The first generation fought to make ‘us’ from ‘mu’ to ‘us’, from ‘us’ to ‘our’. Thousands of people lost their lives, lost their lives, lost their lives. But the government reduced it from ‘our’ to ‘mu’. My candidacy is in the campaign to make the next generation ‘our’ from ‘mu’ to ‘our’, from ‘our’ to ‘us’ to ‘we’. There can be no bigger agenda than this. We have made our history, we have to build the country now. That is our agenda. ‘
He said that the Congress should move forward by leading the country. According to him, the activities from the inaugural programme to the presentation of the general convention indicated that the NC would move ahead in a new way.
Vice-presidential candidate Dhanraj Gurung, however, said that his candidacy should be seen linking his candidacy with the implementation of the party’s principles, ideas, policies and programs rather than personal agenda.
“This is the internal competition of the party. In the internal competition, we are now passing ideas, principles, policies and programs in closed session. The agenda outside of that is not personal. In terms of strengthening the party, we have passed many things from the closed session as well. It has continued today as well. We have to show our ability in the party. We have to show our deeds,” Gurung said.
He said that the party’s ideology would not change but its ideology, policies and programmes could change with the times. He said that the Congress should move forward instead of going backwards. Claiming that the Congress has not left BP, Gurung urged not to get entangled in the debates of the last 35 years. Likewise, Sita Gurung, who has filed her candidacy for the post of vice-president from the inclusive group, said that she has filed her candidacy with the goal of making the NC stand strongly in the federal democratic republic with inclusive democracy.
She shared her experience of being active in the Nepali Congress since the people’s movement of 2046 BS and working as a member of the Central Working Committee of Nepal Students’ Union, Tarun Dal, Women’s Association and three times. She also said that she participated in the drafting of the constitution as a member of the first and second Constituent Assembly and also held the responsibility of the ministry for a short time.
Stating that she had experience of working in party organisation, constitution drafting, running the government and different geography of the country, she said her goal was to make the NC a strong and inclusive party by increasing the participation of women and youths.
