Kathmandu. The filing of candidacy for the new working committee under the 15th General Convention of the Nepali Congress has concluded with the political discussion in the closed session. The candidates who have filed their candidacies are now adopting different methods of seeking votes from the representatives.
In the convention venue, candidates are asking for votes using campaign materials ranging from technology to traditional style. Some are asking for votes through robots, some are distributing cards and supporters are seen walking around asking for votes from the delegates with pamphlets.
Nawaraj Tripathi, a candidate for the post of central member, has used a robot to ask for votes.
Tripathi, who is also an engineer who is active in party politics from the Nepal Students’ Union, used technology to campaign at the convention venue on Tuesday morning. A crowd of convention delegates were also seen to see his robot and get publicity materials.
Similarly, Dilliram Subedi, a candidate for the post of joint general secretary, has sought votes from Mumsakt. The convention delegates are also attracted to his style of campaigning. Although the Congress has been saying that it will take the party to the digital system, the candidates in the general convention have continued the traditional style along with technology. Jagadishwor Narsingh KC, joint general secretary candidate of Khas-Arya group, said that along with personal meetings, social media and SMS have also been used as important means of publicity.
KC said, “Asking for votes is nothing better than meeting all the general convention delegates here and asking for votes. But when they are not able to meet people, they propagate through social media and SMS that ‘I am the candidate for such and such post, my name is Jagadishwar Narsingh KC’. One is in SMS, one is on social media and the other is in personal meetings. “
He said that social media has become an important medium of election campaigning in recent times.
KC said that although the NC has tried to take all the processes from the active members to the party to the digital system, it has not been able to move to the fully digital system after the decision to continue the active membership system prepared for the 14th General Convention.
According to him, efforts were made to connect about 5 lakh active members to the digital system. He said that in the coming days, the entire process from the active members of the party should be taken to the digital system.
‘Different systems have been adopted while asking for votes. It is also in the digital system. There are all the processes that can be used in the current situation. We are working to make it more technology-friendly,” he said.
