The political move, face, thinking and character of the Nepali Congress should be changed: Madhu Acharya
Kathmandu. Nepali Congress central member and vice-presidential candidate Madhu Acharya has said that along with the change in the policy, the working style, the behavior of the leadership and the political character of the party needs to be changed.
Registering his candidacy for the post of vice-president in the 15th general convention of the party, Acharya said that the new awakening seen in the party should be strengthened ideologically and organizationally. Talking to Nepal News Bank after filing his candidacy at the National Assembly Hall on Tuesday, he said that the NC should be re-established as a party of people’s trust.
According to him, even if the people have started regaining hope in the Congress, the party needs to correct the shortcomings of the past to convert it into a political result. He said that for this, it is not enough to change the policy document or decision.
“Substantive transformation is necessary to regain the lost trust of the people,” Acharya said, “Only a change in policy is not enough, there is a need for a new Nepal and a new Congress in pace, face, thinking and character.” Acharya also said that the current political situation of the country has not been moving forward as per the expectations of the people. He said that although the people want progress, prosperity and good governance, the activities of the government have not been able to raise the expectations as expected.
He presented the main basis of his candidacy to make the NC organization effective at the grassroots level and to strengthen the relationship with the cadres.
Acharya said that he has been raising the agenda of party transformation since the past and said that there is still a lot of work to be done as per the roadmap set by the special general convention. Stating that the reforms made so far are only in the initial stage, he clarified that his candidacy is to institutionalize the remaining reforms.
He said that he took the candidature for the post of vice-president as a responsibility rather than a position. He said that his priority is to build the Congress according to the expectations of the grassroots level cadres. “It is my resolve to build the Congress as per the needs and aspirations of the party members and grassroots cadres,” he said.
