Kathmandu. Pradip Poudel, the candidate for the post of general secretary in the 15th general convention of the Nepali Congress, has intensified his meeting with the general convention delegates.
Poudel has been meeting the delegates at the convention venue and seeking support in his favor.
Talking to media persons, Poudel said that there will be a fair and friendly competition for the post of general secretary. He claimed that the delegates of the general convention cannot be influenced by forming any faction or group as they are the leaders themselves.
‘There is a very fair competition. The delegate of the convention is the leader himself. All the delegates who have come here have contributed more than me. I think everyone has contributed as much as I have,” he said.
Poudel said that the delegates have come to the general convention to build the future of the NC with long experience.
‘They have come with a long experience and how to build the future of the Congress party. Therefore, no one can influence it by forming a faction. Friends vote in a rational manner. We are competing in a fair manner. We will compete in a friendly manner,” he said.
Poudel said that he would present himself within the party’s rules and regulations and there would be no factional influence in the general convention.
Meanwhile, Poudel clarified that the reason for the increase in the number of office-bearers of the Congress was not the management of the leaders. He said that with the increase in the number of active members, the size of the general convention delegates and the central committee has increased accordingly.
According to him, the active members of the Congress were 888,000 in the 14th general convention, which has now increased to about 10 lakh. He said that the central committee was formed on the basis of 4 percent of the 4,500 delegates in the 14th general convention and now the central committee has been formed on the basis of 4.3 percent of the 7,300 delegates.
“It is not for the management of the leaders, it is natural that the number of central committees representing those who are represented is also increased as the representation is high,” Poudel said.
He said that this time the issues of taking women into executive roles and ensuring representation from other inclusive clusters have been addressed.
‘There have been complaints for a long time that women were not taken into executive roles, that other inclusive clusters did not get that opportunity. We have managed all of that this time,” he said.
