Trump also raised the issue of last year’s Nobel Peace Prize winner and Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corinna Machado. According to Trump, during a meeting in the Oval Office, Machado gave him the Nobel Medal he received. Trump claimed that Trump is more deserving of the award than himself.
The 2026 Nobel Peace Prize will be announced on Friday. The selection of the prize is the responsibility of the Norwegian Nobel Committee in Oslo, Norway. The names of Pope Leo, the International Criminal Court and the United Nations Special Rapporteur for the Palestinian Territories are also being discussed as possible contenders for this year’s prize.
