Electricity tariff of government offices will now be paid through digital medium
Kathmandu. Government offices can now pay electricity bills through digital medium. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed between Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) and the Office of Auditor General of Nepal (NEA) to implement a system to pay electricity bills consumed by government bodies through electronic means.
After the interconnection between the Integrated Public Finance Management Service of the Financial Comptroller General Office and the Institutional Customer Payment System of Nepal Electricity Authority, the payment of electricity tariff of the government offices will be done electronically. The interconnection between the two agencies’ systems is an important step towards promoting digital payments, making the public financial management and electricity tariff collection system more modern and effective.
This is expected to further strengthen financial and information systemic coordination among government bodies, Office of Auditor General and NEA to promote digital economy and cashless and checkless transactions.
NEA’s Managing Director Dirgha Kumar Shrestha said the new system will end the need for government agencies to use cheques and cash for electricity tariff payment, making payments in an easy, secure and transparent manner.
“This arrangement will play a significant role in ensuring timely payment of electricity tariffs, minimizing arrears and late fees, and making the fee collection more effective,” Shrestha said.
He said that the payment management will be more systematic as the details related to the liability of the electricity tariff to be paid by the government bodies will also be received on time. In addition, the need to withdraw a large amount of money in advance will be reduced and the financial management of the government bodies will also be easier.
