KATHMANDU: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Bikram Timilsina has said that Nepal should take its unique products, identity and possibilities to the world market by branding.
Speaking at a program organized in Kathmandu on Thursday, Minister Timilsina said that although Nepal has abundant potential, it has not been able to use it commercially. Minister Timilsina said that Nepal has its own history, identity and various unique strengths and should be able to be used in the world market. He said that the products and unique products from different parts of Nepal can be identified, branded and commercialized, and taken to the world market.
“It is important to identify which parts of Nepal are famous for rice, which parts of Nepal are famous for potatoes, what are the things that are not available in Nepal or what are the things that are not available in the weather of Nepal and what are the things that are not available in that taste,” he said.
He said that after identifying such products, they should be commercialized and a market should be created.
‘Once that is identified, it can be commercialized and made into a market, and today the whole world is interconnected. You can easily sell and distribute goods in any corner of the world living in Nepal and you can attract attention from all over the world with your digital advertising,” he said.
Minister Timilsina stressed on the need to protect and promote products related to intellectual property and geographical identity. He said that if products related to different places of Nepal can be certified and promoted as brands, economic benefits can be derived.
He said, “You have also mentioned that the identities associated with this geography, this GI of yours.” As I have said earlier, if we can verify that different types of products are connected to a specific location, geographic, then we can have different benefits.”The government’s job is not to build the brand itself, but to create the necessary policies, laws and environment,” said Minister Timilsina.
‘The country, the state, the government will not do it, but it should create an environment to do it. It should be facilitated. On the one hand, the government had to talk about doing it procedurally, it should have been informed about it, but after its completion, it is not the government’s job to create hurdles, it is the government’s job to facilitate it, it is the government’s job to create the environment, and it is the government’s job to formulate policies, rules and laws,” he said.
He said that he is ready to facilitate the government in the field of branding.
“As a representative of the government, I am ready to assist you personally as well as the representative of the government when this matter is being discussed,” he said.
Minister Timilsina said that the progress should be seen from the current situation when such study is carried out again in the next six months, one year or two years. He said that the government should identify ways in the field of branding by coordinating with the Ministry of Industry and other concerned bodies. Minister Timilsina said that Nepali entrepreneurs and entrepreneurs should establish their identity in the international market. He said that if brands with Nepaliness and unique identity can be created, it will also contribute to the country’s economy.
‘On a regular basis, the branding should be based on something that is like our own branding, carrying Nepaliness and that is not the end. Since we have been building that identity, in my opinion, even if the country is small, the population is small, the world is getting closer and closer, and the use of virtual markets is increasing, in my opinion, it is now horizon wider,” he said.
