Kathmandu. The candidates for central members from various clusters and groups in the ongoing 15th General Convention of the Nepali Congress have stressed on the need to make the party more inclusive, youth-friendly and people-oriented.
Nirmala Shrestha, a candidate for the post of central member from the disability cluster, said that although the NC has taken forward the practice of inclusion, the representation of people with disabilities is not adequate. She said that there is a need to increase the representation in the quota allocated for people with disabilities.
She said, “The Congress has started the democratic exercise. It has shown that the disabled people should also be included in this Congress. The quota was created for the voice of the voiceless people, but in reality, the disabled quota has been neglected this time. While increasing the number to 295, there is one person in the disabled quota, one disabled person in the whole country — neither women nor men — so I feel that there is not a little voice heard or we have not been able to raise that voice. Overall, it has been included, not all of them can be achieved. But there is a little less in what has been done. Shrestha said that they could not enter the convention venue on time due to internal problems during the preparation of the general convention and it was difficult to raise the agenda of the people with disabilities.
She said, “Sadly, we could not go inside the closed session. Due to the internal difficulties, we should have been allowed to enter as an official person while registering our names, but we could not enter as we could not get the registration due to not getting the files. So our voices could not be heard and made heard there. Such mistakes should not happen in the coming days. “
According to her, there was not enough discussion on the issues and proposals of people with disabilities as they were focused on preparing for the elections. “There is a runaway in the election, but we were confused because we were not able to get in. We had to lag a little bit there as well,” she said.
Candidate for the House of Representatives and central member Narendra Kumar Kerung said that the new central committee should work with determination to overcome the despair and negativity growing in the country.
He said, “I am also a candidate for the central member. The team that will be elected from tomorrow will go to the village with a resolve to solve the current problems of this country, the problems of despair and the negativity of the people. The country will get some new kind of experience from the Central Committee of tomorrow. He also apologized for the inconvenience caused to the delegates participating in the Congress during the election period. He said that the delegates who have come from abroad and distant places have already taken the tickets to return and efforts are being made to complete the election as early as possible.
He said, “The representatives who have come from far away and have already made the return ticket by the time they arrived. In that regard, I felt a little awkward. We are lobbying to create a conducive environment for the delegates who want to return after completing the election from 7 am tomorrow. “
Apologizing for holding the election process for one day, he claimed that the general convention would be historic.
‘As organizers, we have to say sorry to them. But the Nepali Congress general convention is going to be held with a tsunami to change the country. It is very historic,” he said.
Similarly, Prabin Lal Das, a candidate for the post of central member from the youth cluster below 35 years, expressed his commitment to take the feelings and voices of the youths changed after the Genji movement into the mainstream of the party.
He said, “I will try to take the voice of the youth to the mainstream of the party when the voice of the youth who have struggled in student politics and their pain and youth has not been able to reach the party office like me in the changed Congress after the Genji movement.” The leadership will be reformed, changeable and youth-friendly. Sunita Kumari Rana Tharu, who is the candidate for the post of central member from the Tharu Women’s Cluster, said that she has filed her candidacy to make the NC more inclusive, strong and youth-friendly by representing the marginalized community.
She said, “In the 15th general convention of the Nepali Congress, I have a strong claim from the Tharu women’s cluster for the central member. We have to make a party like Nepali Congress strong and strong, youthful and inclusive of all.” Tharu said that the Rana Tharu community in Kailali and Kanchanpur is still lagging behind in education, health and politics. She said that she will lead the community and take initiatives to access the resources, resources and opportunities of the state.
She said, “Our community is only in Kailali and Kanchanpur. That community is not in any mainstream in education, health and politics. It is the backward caste in all. My community is the most backward community, it is a minority. They do not have a direct link with the resources, means and system of the state. For that, I want to lead my community. My candidacy is also to get an identity. She said that the Congress should play a leading role for the upliftment of the Rana Tharu community and development in every field.
Rana Tharu claimed that the statute and guidelines have been formulated to include all communities within the party and the leadership is needed to implement them in practice. “We have a statute that accommodates everyone. We have a directive that covers everyone. We have the strength and capacity to take the lead in it.
That kind of leadership is the need of the hour,” she said.
In the 15th general convention of the Congress, the candidates have given priority to inclusion, youth participation, representation of backward communities and strengthening the internal democracy of the party. The candidates have expressed hope that the new central committee coming from the upcoming elections will make the party more dynamic and people-oriented.
