Culture, thinking and way of working should be changed to change the party: Gagan Thapa
Kathmandu. Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa has said that there is a need to change the culture, way of thinking, style of organization, decision-making process and accountability to make the party new.
Speaking at a program organized at the NC central office in Sanepa on Saturday, he said that the responsibility given to him is not personal victory but belief in change. He promised that although he did not promise to do miracles, he would make honest efforts and not run away from difficult questions and tough decisions.
Thapa said, “This is not my personal victory, it is my belief in change. It is my belief in our determination to make the Nepali Congress new. I will not let this belief go to waste.” He said that the 15th general convention has given him the responsibility to institutionalize the resolution of party change. He said that he was not under the illusion that the party will automatically change if the leadership changes through the general convention.
“To change the Nepali Congress, we need to change our culture, change our way of thinking, change the way we organize, change the decision-making system, change the way we take responsibility and change the way we take accountability,” Thapa said.
Thapa said that the competition in the general convention should be ended now and everyone should be united within the party. He said that the victory or defeat after the vote counting should not be taken as a permanent split within the party.
He said that the Congress should take forward the campaign to regain the trust of the citizens.
He pledged to move ahead by taking all the leaders and cadres along with him, saying that it would not be possible alone or by any group alone for the same.
Expressing gratitude to Shyam Krishna Khadgi, who competed with him for the post of president, Thapa said that his competition has played an important role in keeping the internal democracy alive within the party. Thapa said that the role of leaders who have contested for various posts in the general convention but could not get elected will also be important. He said that not being able to get the post does not mean that their political importance has diminished and promised to move forward by taking everyone along. Thapa said that efforts will be made to bring the leaders who were not part of the general convention process into the mainstream of the party. He stressed the need to change the working style of the party to rebuild the trust between the Congress and the people.
