Kathmandu. The counting of votes for the post of Vice-President and General Secretary under the 15th General Convention of the Nepali Congress has begun from today.
Senior advocate Prem Bahadur Khadka, coordinator of the election committee, said that the counting of votes for the candidates for the post of general secretary and vice-president began at 7:30 pm on Saturday.
Earlier, the election committee had held discussions with the candidates for the post of vice-president and general secretary. After that, the ballot box was opened in the presence of the candidates for the counting of votes.
According to Raju Katuwal, member secretary of the election committee, the counting of votes for the post of vice-president and general secretary is underway at the party central office, Sanepa.
The counting of votes has begun after installing CCTV cameras and collecting the names of the representatives who will be present in the vote counting.
Earlier, the counting of votes for the president was held after the voting ended on Friday night. Gagan Kumar Thapa defeated Shyam Krishna Khadgi for the post of president. Thapa got about 94 percent of the votes.
Addressing the party office on Saturday, he promised to move ahead by including Khadgi and all those defeated in the next count. Thapa assured senior vice-president Bishwa Prakash Sharma and woman vice-president Pushpa Bhusal that all would have an equal role in terms of responsibility, saying that no one would be able to escape the responsibility as they have to carry many responsibilities in the party.
