Kathmandu. On the eve of Dashain, a four-day ‘Kite Chet’ pre-Dashain festival will be organized in Nagarkot from October 12 to 31. The program is going to be resumed from this year, continuing the tradition of kite flying in Nagarkot, which was stopped for a few years.
There has been a tradition of flying kites and celebrating collectively on the occasion of Dashain in Nagarkot for more than two decades. According to the organizers, the main objective is to take this tradition to the new generation and to promote Nepali culture, family gatherings and group celebrations. There will also be a special attraction for foreign tourists in the program.
The four-day event will include kite flying activities, live music and dance, food stalls, face painting, pottery, magic and stand-up comedy, among other entertaining activities. Participants will also be able to enjoy Dashain special food as well as a heated swimming pool and jacuzzi. According to the organizers, transportation facilities will be provided for additional fees for the participants coming to Nagarkot from the Kathmandu Valley. Arjun Singh Thakuri, a tourism entrepreneur of Nagarkot and the operator of Mountain Vista Retreat, said that ‘Kite Chet’ is not limited to entertainment but is taken as an opportunity to take Nepali culture and tradition to the new generation. “Kite chat has been held in Nagarkot for the last two decades.
It was stopped in the middle, but from this year we are going to organize it again with the slogan ‘This year’s Dashain… Kite in the sky, joy in the mind!'” said Thakuri. He said that the plan is to take this event forward as a big festival and not as a general event.
According to the organizers, former Miss Nepal Usha Khadgi and other artists will participate in the program. Personalities from entertainment, literature, health, education and corporate sectors as well as family and general public are expected to participate. Tourism entrepreneurs of Nagarkot have said that various artists will perform in the four-day program.
