Kathmandu. Today, Kukur Tihar, the second biggest festival of Nepal, is being celebrated. On the second day of Yamapanchak, there is a tradition of worshiping dogs and celebrating this festival. According to religious beliefs, dogs are considered as messengers of Yamraj and guards of the journey to the afterlife. On the basis of religious beliefs, dogs are worshiped on this day on the basis of religious beliefs that dogs help in the journey to Yamalok after death.

On the occasion of Dog Tihar, after bathing and daily rituals, the dog is worshiped by garlanding, applying a mark of abir on the forehead and feeding sweet dishes. There is a tradition of feeding the dogs kept at home as well as the dogs on the road with garlands. There is also a religious belief that worshiping and feeding dogs on this day will bring virtue.

In the Vedic Sanatan Hindu tradition, the dog is revered as a symbol of loyalty, courage and protection. Sarma mentioned in the Rig Veda is considered to be the mother of dogs. It is mentioned in the Vedic texts that she helped Indra, the king of heaven, to find the missing object.

According to Shaligram Dhakal, assistant professor at Nepal Sanskrit University, Kukur Tihar gives a religious and cultural message that makes people understand the importance of loyalty, loyalty and security. Stating that there is a tradition of worshipping crows, snakes and other animals in the Vedic Sanatan Dharma, he said that there is a religious belief that dogs are worshipped to get rid of the fear of Yamraj as it is considered as the messenger of Yamaraj. According to him, the importance of the dog festival is not limited to religious beliefs. It also inspires people to learn from the loyalty and honesty of the dog. “Humans can be liars, but a dog cannot back down from its loyalty. I could not be so loyal as a human being, but it can also be worshipped with the feeling that the same quality of the dog should come to me,” he said. He said that the role played by dogs in the security of the house is also respectable. He said that the nature of the dog, which alerts the family by barking when a stranger comes, shows its protective role. According to Dhakal, the purpose of worshipping a dog is to respect its qualities of loyalty, loyalty and security.

Tihar is a festival celebrated for five days. During this period, there is a tradition of worshiping crows, dogs, cows, oxen, and brothers.
