Kathmandu. KATHMANDU — Bhishma Raj Angdembe has been elected the parliamentary party leader of the Nepali Congress (NC). A meeting of the party’s central work execution committee held on Monday had decided to propose Angdembe as the PP leader. The same proposal was endorsed by the NC parliamentary party meeting, said NC President Gagan Thapa.
Talking to media persons, Thapa said that it was natural to be criticized as the process to elect the parliamentary leader took a bit longer. He said although the process of electing the leader could be finalized the next day through the election process, it was delayed as a majority of lawmakers wanted to be elected unanimously. Stating that it was easy to compete in the NC but it was difficult to forge consensus, Thapa said that although it was late, it was maturing from within.
He said, “Naturally, there were a lot of criticism as the selection process took a little longer. The process of electing the leader could be finalized the next day through the election process. But this time, the majority of lawmakers wanted it to be unanimous. It’s easy to compete in the Congress, but it’s hard to get a consensus. Even though it was late, we were maturing. ’
Likewise, leader Angdembe said that there was a lack of coordination between the party and the parliament in the past and expressed the commitment to move towards facing the biggest challenges of the country through coordinated discussions and debates between the party and the parliament.
“Yesterday, there seemed to be a forgettable coordination between the party and the parliament. But today, we need to find it and move forward. We will move on the path to face the big challenges of the country through a coordinated discussion and debate between the party and the parliament,” he said.
He said that the decision on other office-bearers of the parliamentary party would be finalized within 24 hours.
