Kathmandu. As tensions between Iran and the US escalate, Iran has signalled that it will not bow to US proposals on the Strait of Hormuz and its nuclear program. According to a report by the Institute for the Study of War, the hardline views of the head of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, General Ahmad Wahidi, are now dominating Tehran.

Iran has said it will not hold talks on the nuclear issue until the US lifts a naval blockade on its ports. Iran is using new tactics including Oman to collect tariffs on ships in the Strait of Hormuz and pressure Yemen’s Houthi rebels in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.

US President Donald Trump, on the other hand, described the US naval sanctions against Iran as a “genius and 100 percent success”. President Donald Trump has said that there will be no deal until Iran gives up its nuclear ambitions. In an interview, he said Iran’s economy was under “a lot of pressure” due to sanctions and that it was doing more effective than bombing. Trump praised U. S. military strength and reiterated his insistence that Iran must meet U. S. conditions and abandon the path of nuclear weapons before it can come to talks.

Trump has flatly rejected Iran’s offer to lift sanctions and open the Strait of Hormuz before talks. According to the ISW report, Iran is using the time of the ceasefire to restructure its missile and drone power. The US has made sanctions a key weapon to pressure Iran, and Trump has also kept the option of military action if Iran does not agree to talks. This has increased the risk of geopolitical instability and conflict in the Gulf region. ANI
