Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Balendra Shah has clarified that the government has created panic over the removal of squatters’ settlements on the banks of rivers and government land in the Kathmandu Valley. The Prime Minister said that the government has no intention of displacing the citizens and no one should be homeless.
Issuing a message through the social networking site Facebook, he said that the government has planned to spread fear among the citizens regarding the management process forwarded by the government in accordance with the law in the areas where government land has been encroached upon. He made it clear that the encroachment on the river banks and government land in the Kathmandu Valley was not aimed at displacing the citizens but for a long-term solution.
“The attention of the government has been drawn to the public making various comments and interpretations regarding the management process carried out by the Government of Nepal in accordance with the law in the areas where it is evident that there has been unwarranted encroachment on the riverbanks and government-owned land in the Kathmandu Valley,” he wrote. The government has taken seriously the information received regarding the process of creating apprehension among the landless and unorganized citizens that they may be forced to live in unorganized settlement and systematically trying to spread panic. ’
He said that with the removal of legal hurdles, digital data collection, verification of details and preparation of records of the genuine landless citizens have been started. He claimed that the government was moving towards systematic, transparent and sustainable solution by identifying the real situation of the landless citizens through the process.
Prime Minister Shah said that arrangements would be made for the safe and systematic relocation of the people living in unsafe places at risk of their lives. He said that the government of Nepal would take necessary decision on the issue of landless people based on the recommendations of the concerned commission and the details compiled.
He has urged one and all not to be confused, not to panic unnecessarily and not to spread unconfirmed information.
