Kathmandu. Rastriya Swatantra Party (RPP) President Rabi Lamichhane has urged the court not to make justice a matter of ridicule. Addressing a two-day training programme of the RSP here today, he stressed the need for easy and real justice to the people.
Commenting on the process of recommending the Chief Justice, Lamichhane said that the decision taken by going against the tradition was unconstitutional. He argued that there would be no need for a Constitutional Council if the appointments were made only on the basis of seniority.
He said, “The recommendation of the Chief Justice went against the tradition and was called unconstitutional. How were 6÷6 recommended? If it was said that there would be senior-most instead of 6 members, it would have been straightforward, there would have been no need for a Constitutional Council. ’
Lamichhane also urged the court to be responsible, saying people’s faith in the justice system should be maintained.
“What’s the use of making a challenging statement? That’s just a joke. We don’t believe in bases. If you talk about me, my neck is still there. If you are angry, use your weapon. That’s where I came to my neck,” he said, “The court should not make it a matter of street and a matter of ridicule.” Considering how justice can be given to the common people, justice should not be just on paper. ’
Lamichhane described the latest political situation as the ‘easiest revolution in history’ and said that they would be a failure if the opportunity given by the people could not be converted into results. He said that the campaign of changing the situation was bigger and more challenging than the change in the system.
“It’s an easy revolution in history,” he said. The children are safe, there is a hot meal waiting at the dining table, there is applause, there is a rush to different studios to give interviews. If we can’t give this much revolution, we will be worthless. Not only a revolution to change the system, but also a revolution to change the situation is a big revolution. The people have given that power in our hands. ’
He added that it was natural to have some dissatisfaction over not getting ministers or other responsibilities in the party. But as a parliamentarian, the opportunity to change the history of the country is bigger than any minister or committee chairperson, he added.
“Many of us won, but not all of us became ministers. It should have happened somewhere, there may be a feeling in others that I am not. He didn’t become a minister, but he should have been made the chairman of the committee. But the contribution we can make to the country’s history as lawmakers is far greater than that of a minister or committee chairperson,” he said. ’
Lamichhane said although it is natural to see differences and disputes as the party is growing larger, it should be managed responsibly. He also urged the party leaders and cadres to be especially aware of public speeches, posts on social media and behaviour.
Stating that wrong activities would make a mockery of the RSP even in the chowk and tea shops, he said that the party should be proved to be different from its behavior.
Lamichhane claimed that the mandate received by the RSP was not only from his supporters. He said that the voters associated with Nepali Congress, UML and Maoist Center have also left their old political homes and trusted the RSP.
