Kathmandu. The annual report of the Auditor General for the fiscal year 2081/082 has been submitted to President Ram Chandra Poudel. Auditor General Toyam Raya submitted the report to President Poudel at a function held at the President’s Office, Sheetal Niwas, on Friday.
Speaking on the occasion, President Poudel said that the accountability, transparency and financial discipline of public bodies have eroded in view of the growing arrears of government expenditures since long.
“I see the need for more accountability on the part of public officials to move towards resolving the arrears and maintaining fiscal discipline,” he said.
President Poudel expressed the belief that the aspirations of the younger generation for sustainability, peace, good governance, development and prosperity would be fulfilled if economic discipline was maintained by discouraging irregular government expenditure.
He said that the issues raised in the report would make the concerned bodies and stakeholders more accountable.
“The role of the Office of the Auditor General is significant in maintaining financial discipline, accountability and transparency by reducing the arrears in government expenditure,” President Poudel said, adding that the Office should be more active towards institutional competency, professional capacity building and internal good governance in the days ahead.
